Covenant of Service

KHAYBAR exists to demonstrate that commerce and conscience are not opposites. Through the roasting and selling of coffee, through the operation of the Salon, through every act of hospitality offered in this house — we build the means of giving.

We are not a charity. We do not ask for donations. We build something real, sustain it honestly, and from its surplus — measured and declared openly — we feed those who are hungry.

This is the manner. It does not change with convenience. It does not bend with difficulty. It was set at the beginning and will hold until the end.

From every nine kilograms of coffee sold, the value of one kilogram is directed to the preparation and distribution of a fresh meal for someone in need.

This is not a marketing promise. It is a structural commitment — built into the price, the process, and the purpose of everything offered under the name KHAYBAR.

Every Servant who enters this house participates in this manner simply by being here. The work of the Salon — every cup served, every table set, every guest welcomed — is an act within this chain. Nothing here is neutral. Everything contributes.

You enter this house as a Servant of KHAYBAR.

This is not a lesser title. The servants of every great mission were its first hands — they did the work before the world saw it. They carried it before it was celebrated.

As a Servant, you are acknowledged, welcomed, and given a role that serves the mission. You are not here to perform a function. You are here because your presence, your manner, and your intention align with this house.

A distinction held by this house: Companions of Love are those outside — the cafés, the roasteries, the partners — who generate meals through their commerce. They are equals who chose freely. The Servant of KHAYBAR is appointed from within — chosen, trusted, and held to the manner of this house.

This house makes the following commitments to every Servant who enters:

• ✦You will be paid on time, fairly, and with transparency about how that number was reached.
• ✦You will be told the truth about the state of the mission — its struggles as well as its progress.
• ✦Your role will be described with dignity. You will not be reduced to a function.
• ✦Your niyyah — your intention — matters here. You are invited to bring it.
• ✦You will never be asked to act against the mission, the manner, or your own conscience.
• ✦When this covenant ends, it will end with honour — not with clauses and counter-claims.

In entering this covenant, you offer the following:

• ✦You will bring your full presence to the work — not performance, but genuine care.
• ✦You will treat every guest, every colleague, and every person who passes through this door with dignity.
• ✦You will speak the truth, even when it is uncomfortable — to us, and we will receive it.
• ✦You will hold the mission as your own during the time you are here.
• ✦You will give notice of your departure with honesty and enough time to protect what we built together.
• ✦When you leave, you will carry the name KHAYBAR with the same honour with which it was given to you.

Every path has a length. Not every Servant walks the full distance of this mission — and that is not failure. It is honesty.

When the time comes for this covenant to end — whether by your choosing or by ours — it will be handled in the following manner:

This covenant operates within and is supplemented by the employment law of the Netherlands. Where the law requires a formal employment agreement, that agreement exists as a supporting document to this covenant — not as its replacement, but as its legal form.

The spirit of this covenant governs how we treat each other. The law governs the terms we are required to record. Both are real. Neither cancels the other.

The formal employment agreement is held separately and provided upon entry. This document is the declaration of intention that precedes it.
